New Year, Better You

The new year is all about setting goals and starting fresh. As we rush into the new year, many set their New Year’s resolutions whether it revolves around fitness, health, or work goals, it is essential to prioritize self-care and maintain a healthy balance in our lives. Incorporating beauty practices that promote relaxation and well-being can be the key to achieving a harmonious mind and body. Here are some insightful ideas to turn into habits in the coming of the new year.
Morning Mindfulness
Would you like to start your day on a positive note? Instead of rushing through your morning, scrolling on your phone, or pressing the snooze button too many times, start your day with a moment of tranquility. The buzz of phones can create stress and unwarranted emotions. First things first, ditch the habit of hitting the snooze button so there are no more rush hour mornings. Allow yourself to have a time window to do your morning routine. Start slow with a couple minutes of breathing or even do a few stretches to get your body and mind moving. Whatever you choose to do, morning mindfulness is all about making the first moments of your day yours before you must step out into the world.
Digital Detox
Are you tired of seeing the same things repeatedly on your phone or rotating through the same social media apps? Try digital detoxing in the new year. Instead of going on your phone when you’re on a break from work or going on your phone before bed, set your phone aside and minimize screen time. According to Newport Academy, a digital detox is an opportunity to reduce stress and focus more on interaction with others. Doing this can broaden your horizons in the social atmosphere. In this new year, try to free yourself from digital distractions and take in the beauty of the world outside of your phone.
Find Your Outlet
Need to shake off some stress or thoughts? Get your creative juices flowing! Grab a canvas and splash some colors with paint. If words are your thing, start journaling and write down any thoughts that are bothering you and take the time to destress. If you’re not feeling active, try sitting on the couch with your favorite snacks or blanket and watch a movie or TV show. Nothing is wrong with taking the time to focus on yourself and wash away all the negative thoughts or emotions. Whether it be seeing friends, reading, watching TV or simply going for a walk, find what clicks for you to help melt that stress away.
Creating Healthy Habits
In the new year, adopting healthy habits is a great way to better your overall wellbeing. Here are some ideas to jump start your new year goals.
- Drink a glass of water every morning.
- Move for five minutes a day.
- Work on your relationship with yourself.
- Dedicate a day in the week to focus on you!
- Create a day and night routine.
- Buy some new skincare products to update your routine.
Remember, self-care is personal, and it’s essential to find practices that resonate with you. The new year does not need to be intimidating, so start by incorporating one or two new habits into your routines and build upon them as you discover what is best for creating a healthy body and mind.
