What to Wear: When the groundhog doesn’t see a shadow

Groundhog Day is a holiday that seems old and dated — why put my weather forecast on the shoulders of a woodland creature? But what better way to get ahead of the trendsetters than taking the word of a groundhog that has predicted the season for years and years? Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog of 2016, has spoken, and spring is near. Shed your coats, and put your sweaters in storage because it’s about to warm up outside. Spring on the runway is when some of the most creative fashion emerges, but that shouldn’t stop when it comes to your own closet. To be prepared, hop on the newest spring trends that will make your wardrobe bloom.

Neckerchiefs

Chokers were all the rage for this year, and they don’t show any sign of stopping. To amp up what you’ve been wearing, try a neckerchief. It’s totally an homage to vintage fashion, but with new patterns and colors it pushes your style into the future. Wrap one around your neck with a flirty top or underneath a collared shirt for a menswear-inspired look.

Black and White

I think of spring fashion, and then Miranda Priestly whispers in my ear, “Floral’s? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” Trying to go somewhere new for spring can be hard, but it is as simple as going back to basics. Black and white for spring is fresh and quite unexpected. You can play with print or texture to create something that is really new and effortless. Go all white with a pop of black, or if you are feeling daring do an all black outfit with a white detail.

Pajama inspired

If I could spend my day in pajamas, I would. Hands down. To look like you didn’t just roll out of bed, try a pajama inspired shirt instead. Nothing feels more luxe and soft than silk. Try a traditional pajama shirt for a mix of classic structure and soft movement. These shirts have been popping up all over the runway and street style blogs because they ooze casual elegance in one piece. Pair this shirt with a pair of jeans and some chic loafers.
