Playlist: Labor Day 2016

By Allie Binford
We’ve made it through the first few weeks of classes and now Labor Day is finally here to rescue us from our back to school blues. Here’s what we’ll be jammin’ to this weekend as we hold on to those last few rays of summertime.

Make It Real | Vista Kicks

This track from Vista Kicks’ first EP “BABE” takes their beachy California vibe and mixes it with a bit of rock ‘n’ roll. Vista Kicks is an up-and-coming group based in Los Angeles, and you can check out their newest EP “Chasing Waves” on Apple Music and Spotify.

Trouble | Cage The Elephant

One of Cage’s more laid-back tracks, “Trouble” is the perfect soundtrack for a day spent lounging by the pool. Cage The Elephant has been around for nearly 10 years and their newest release “Tell Me I’m Pretty” does not disappoint.

Heart | Flor

“Heart” is a peppy and upbeat single that can always help brighten your mood. Flor is signed with FueledByRamen – the same label as Twenty One Pilots and Panic! at the Disco – and is getting ready for their next album release coming soon.

So Far (It’s Alright) | The 1975

Most people know The 1975 from their hit song “Chocolate,” but “So Far (It’s Alright)” should be just as much of a hit. My favorite way to jam to this song is in my car, with the windows down, and the wind in my hair.

Talk Too Much | Coin

Coin is a fairly new rock-pop band hailing from Belmont University in Nashville. They sound like a mix between Colony House and Walk The Moon. Coin also recently released their U.S. tour dates, so check them out and see if they’re coming somewhere near you.

Dancing On Glass | St. Lucia

The pulsing beat of “Dancing On Glass” makes it a fun, dancey little track. St. Lucia is a South African act ready to take the rest of the world by storm.

Silhouettes | Colony House

You’ve probably heard this catchy tune from the Nashville-based band Colony House on the radio before. It was the band’s first hit single off of their debut album “When I Was Younger.” The band will be back and at it again as they set out on their 2016 tour and is scheduled to release a new album in early 2017.

The Sound | The 1975

I just had to include this song by The 1975 because whenever it comes on, it’s impossible to sit still. If none of the other songs on this playlist knock you out of your back to school slump, this one sure will.

Greek Tragedy | The Wombats

Full of electric beats, smooth guitar, and heavy drums, “Greek Tragedy” is a great addition to this setlist.

Electric Love | BØRNS

This feel-good pop song is bound to be stuck in your head for days. BØRNS has a few other pump-up tracks, but this one is by far the catchiest.

If You Wanna Stay | The Griswolds

The Griswolds are a band of Aussies who know how to make a good beat. “If You Wanna Stay” is just one of the hits off of their summer infused album “Be Impressive.”

Something To Believe In | Young The Giant

On their newest album “Home of the Strange,” the lead singer Sameer Gadhia’s honey-like voice graces over this track with falsettos and deep growls. When listening to this album for the first time, it’s easy to hear the tribal influences woven into each song. Some other singles to check out off of this record are “Silvertongue,” “Amerika,” and “Titus Was Born.”

T-Shirt Weather | Circa Waves

I had never heard of this track until I started making this playlist, but once I heard it I knew it had to make the cut. Honestly, the lyrics say it all for this one. “T-Shirt Weather” is full of that post summertime nostalgia that we are all experiencing. So jump in the car, roll your windows down, and jam out, way past sundown.
